Wednesday, 14 September 2022

The County of Bedfordshire Service of Thanksgiving for Queen Elizabeth II.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, a County Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate her life will be held in the presence of HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, civic leaders and representatives from across the county.

The service, which will be held on Sunday 18 September at The County Church of St Paul Bedford, will be led by The Reverend Canon Kevin Goss, the Vicar of St Paul’s, with an address and blessing from The Rt Reverend Richard Atkinson, the Bishop of Bedford. Representatives of faith groups from across Bedfordshire will participate in the service with the lighting of candles and prayers for Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family. The congregation will hear from people in the community who will share their personal reflections and encounters.

In addition to the County Service of Thanksgiving, further community services are being held in many of the towns across Bedfordshire where members of all communities will be welcomed. These services include St Mary’s Church in Luton on Wednesday 14 September, The Priory Church of St Peter in Dunstable on Friday 16 September and St Paul’s Church in Bedford on Saturday 17 September.

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire Susan Lousada said:

It will be an honour to attend the County Service of Thanksgiving for Queen Elizabeth II who devoted her life to the people of our nation and the Commonwealth. I am pleased that there will be so many services held and that everyone can have an opportunity to pay their respects and celebrate the life and service of our late Queen.
