Community Action Day in Houghton Regis huge success
Monday, 21 February 2022
We successfully held our first Community Action Day in Houghton Regis.
Our Community Safety, Environmental Services, Road Safety, Trading Standards and Housing Services teams worked together with Bedfordshire Police, Bedfordshire Fire Service and Street Watch last week, to carry out high visibility patrols, tidying of areas, fire prevention advice, as well as making noticeable improvements to the local area, in response to residents’ feedback.
Dog fouling warning signs designed by local children as part of a competition to help crack down on irresponsible dog owners were put up in Houghton Hall Park, Environmental Services carried out some cleansing work in the Windsor Drive area and the Highways Service carried out patching works to repair potholes and road defects and their tree officers carried out vegetation works.
Safer neighbourhood and Safer Communities Partnership officers patrolled across Houghton Regis, with Grand Union Housing Group and Bedfordshire Police giving residents, information about their services and how to report issues.
Several stalls were held at Houghton Hall Park, with officers from our Community Safety, Housing, Trading Standards and Road Safety teams talking to residents and sharing advice and information. Residents were also offered dog poo bags, pens, torches, and information leaflets as well being able to collect COVID-19 rapid test kits during the event.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service promoted its free Safe and Well Checks, whilst a number of Bedfordshire police officers spoke to residents offering crime prevention advice as well as a confidential surgery for residents to talk to officers about any issues they may be having.
Houghton Regis Town Council officers were also on hand and local councillors held a councillor surgery for local residents.
Councillor Ian Dalgarno, our Executive Member for Community Services said:
Our Community Action Day in Houghton Regis was a huge success. With a range of our officers and teams out in the community it meant we could speak to the public about a variety of subjects that are important to them.
Despite the terrible rain during the action day, it was a huge success with a large number of residents coming to speak with our officers, and all of the different partners present. We are hoping our Houghton Regis residents will be able to see an improvement in the area following our visit.
