Success at national sustainable travel awards

Thursday, 10 April 2025

We've been recognised for our outstanding commitment to sustainable travel, winning top honours at the Modeshift STARS National Travel Awards and the TravelWise Week Awards 2024/25.

These prestigious awards celebrate organisations that champion active, accessible, and environmentally friendly travel choices.

Linmere Development named STARS Residential Site of the Year

The Linmere development was awarded a STARS Residential Site of the Year title, recognising its ambitious and impactful Residential Travel Plan. As a large urban extension featuring over 5,000 homes, schools, retail, and community facilities, Linmere promotes a sustainable, community-driven lifestyle by: reducing reliance on private car use; encouraging walking, cycling, and public transport; and cutting single-occupancy vehicle trips.

This recognition highlights our dedication to creating greener, healthier communities for current and future residents.

TravelWise Week award

The TravelWise Week Modeshift award 2025. It's a wooden trophy with a star on the top, engraved with the winners' details.

We also celebrated success in the TravelWise Week Awards, winning Best Modeshift TravelWise Week Campaign (Residential) for our efforts in Linmere. We supported the Linmere development in delivering an exciting week of sustainable travel initiatives, including:

  • the launch of ‘Freddie the Fresh Air Frog’ park and stride scheme at a local school
  • free bus vouchers for residents
  • bike hire and rail travel promotions
  • a scavenger hunt with fantastic prizes

These initiatives, funded by developer contributions, encouraged residents to adopt greener, healthier travel habits, further reinforcing our commitment to sustainable transport. They also support our refreshed sustainability plan, adopted in 2024, which sets out a clear 'road map' of commitments and projects to work towards our ambition to be net zero carbon.

Councillor Tracey Wye, our Executive Member for Sustainability and Climate Resilience, said:

We’re incredibly proud to see Central Bedfordshire’s efforts in sustainable travel recognised on a national stage. Winning these awards reflects our commitment to creating vibrant, low-carbon communities where walking, cycling, and public transport are the first choices for everyday journeys. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Ben Phillips, Linmere Development Director comments:

We have built a great partnership with Central Bedfordshire Council and are very proud to be recognised for our hard work delivering sustainable travel plan together, ensuring awareness and engagement with residents as they move into Linmere has been key to the success of our joint efforts. We will continue to work closely with the council, ensuring Linmere continues to be a success and encourage residents to adopt greener, healthier travel habits as we continue into future phases of the development.
