Discover adoption: local event to help you find out more

Monday, 12 August 2024

Families across Central Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes who are looking to grow, and give a child a loving home, are invited to an adoption information event in August.

Adoption Connects, a partnership between Central Bedfordshire Council and Milton Keynes Council, is hosting an adoption information event on Wednesday 21 August. It will provide information to help families who are considering expanding by adopting a child.

There are currently 15 children waiting for their adoption family across the region. Some of these children have additional needs, and 3 have been waiting for over 12 months to find a family. Additionally, there are brothers and sisters who are hoping to be adopted together in a nurturing and supportive home to help them thrive.

The information event will cover various aspects of the adoption process, including how to get the process started and the support available throughout. The event is open to all individuals, families, and couples who are interested in adopting or just want to find out more.

Councillor Steve Owen, Executive Member for Children and Families, said:

Every child deserves a safe, loving, and permanent home. If you think you can provide that, or you’ve ever considered adoption, please do attend the event to find out more about the process. Attendees will be able to speak to members of the adoption team at Adoption Connects, as well as hear from people who have successfully been through the process and adopted a child.

The event will be held on Wednesday 21 August from 5pm to 6.30pm at Priory House in Chicksands. Registration is required so to register for a space.

The event coincides with a national campaign that highlights the importance of adoption and the journey of adoptive families. The ‘You Can Adopt’ campaign aims to inspire people to take the next step towards growing their family, after data from Adoption England showed there has been a 14 per cent increase in children needing a permanent home compared to 2022-23 data.
