£250,000 refurbishment for Flitwick Leisure Centre gym

Monday, 5 August 2024

Work has begun on a £250,000 gym refurbishment at Flitwick Leisure Centre.

We're joint-funding this exciting investment with facility operator Everyone Active.

This refurbishment will see floor space in the free weights area increased by 40% and the addition of a purpose-built stretching and relaxation area.

New, state-of-the-art fitness equipment will be provided, including deadlift machines, a standing abductor machine and SkiErg ski machines.

Preparation work began at the end of July and a temporary gym closure will take place from Monday, August 5 until Thursday, 15 August.

During this period, members will be granted access to the swimming pool and fitness classes at Flitwick Leisure Centre, as well as all Central Bedfordshire sites. These are Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre, The Dunstable Centre, Houghton Regis Leisure Centre, Saxon Pool and Leisure Centre and Sandy Sports Centre.

Councillor Adam Zerny, Leader of the Council, said:

We are delighted to announce this significant investment in Flitwick Leisure Centre, which demonstrates the council's commitment to improving the health and well-being of the community.

The £250,000 refurbishment will provide state-of-the-art facilities and a more spacious, welcoming environment for all who use the centre. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this upgrade will have on our residents and their fitness.

Gary Foley, Everyone Active’s Contract Manager, said:

The refurbished gym will be a wonderful facility which will really enhance our fitness offering at Flitwick Leisure Centre.

We are confident it will be a big hit, and we look forward to showing as many people as possible the new, state-of-the-art equipment which will serve the local community now and into the future.

This is a very exciting time for leisure in Central Bedfordshire and it’s great to showcase that at Flitwick Leisure Centre.
