On Thursday 9 May, Councillor Gareth Mackey was reappointed as Chair of the Council. Councillor Sue Bell was also reappointed as Vice Chair to serve for the upcoming term spanning 2024/25

Councillor Mackey, who represents Flitwick, has been an Independent Member of the Council since May 2019. Councillor Mackey was first elected to Flitwick Town Council in 2011 and has been the town’s mayor on three occasions.

Expressing gratitude for his reappointment, Councillor Mackey said:

Thank you so much for re-electing me as Chairman of the Council, it has been the absolute honour of a lifetime to represent you and the people of Central Bedfordshire and I rededicate myself again to your service as I did a year ago.

Meanwhile, Councillor Sue Bell, who represents Sandy, said of her reappointment:

Thank you so much for nominating me again. As a new councillor, it has been an interesting learning curve and I thank you for your professionalism and shared wisdom. I’d also like to thank the diverse groups that have invited me to events; from Mayors’ services and Scout groups to meeting with our Ukrainian guests, it has been a privilege and an honour to represent Central Bedfordshire.
