New parking prices to boost town centre trade

Our car parks in Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard are set to benefit from a parking price drop, designed to boost the number of people visiting town centres and increase the time spent in high streets.
As part of the annual review of our fees and charges, we've agreed to implement new parking pricing to encourage custom and vibrancy in towns across the region and support the local economy.
In both towns, the cost of parking for up to 2 hours in our car parks will be reduced as of January 2024. Instead of paying £1.50 for 1 hour, town centre visitors will pay just £1. The rate for 2 hours will be reduced from £2 to £1.80.
Councillor Simon Ford, our Executive Member for Highways and lead for parking enforcement, said:
Setting parking charges in our town centres is about finding a balance between the needs of local businesses, residents and visitors. We understand the impact of low footfall in our high streets, and we hope that this will help encourage people visiting our town centres to come more often, and to stay for longer when they do – both of which are factors in boosting local trade.
