Call for Sites - brownfield

We're asking landowners and residents across Central Bedfordshire to suggest brownfield sites (land that has been built on previously and is now maybe empty or derelict) that could be redeveloped to meet future demand for homes and jobs, and other land uses such as green spaces, education and local facilities.

The brownfield ‘Call for Sites’ is the next step in our fresh approach to plan-making and is a request for submissions of land that could be transformed, enhancing the local community and reducing the need to develop greenfield sites.

Anyone can submit a site, including landowners, developers, community groups, and individuals. Whilst you do not need to own a site to submit it to the Call for Sites, it is unlikely we’d be proceeding with sites whereby there is not clear support from the landowner.

Youth Survey extended to 15 November 2024

Our initial engagement on the Local Plan closed on 23 September 2024. However, we have extended the closing date for our youth survey until 8 November to ensure young people have the opportunity to respond.

This survey is for those aged 13 to 18 years old, and for those aged 13 to 25 years with special educational needs or disabilities.

More about the Local Plan

The Local Plan sets out a vision and framework for the future development of the area.

We need enough homes and jobs for everyone, and to plan carefully for these to make sure they are built in the right place, with the necessary facilities and services, while protecting the environment as much as possible.

Without a Plan, the development will still happen, but we’ll have much less control over where it happens and how it happens.

Three golden threads will run through our new Local Plan:

  • sustainability - limiting the impact on the environment and giving back to nature as much as possible
  • accessibility - designing inclusive places for everyone to live life to the fullest
  • health and wellbeing – designing places to have a positive impact on our physical and mental health.
