Making a Difference to the lives of young carers
Young carers and their families enjoyed a free festival earlier this year hosted by Central Bedfordshire Council at Marston Moreteyne Community Centre.
With activities like karaoke, inflatables, and arts and crafts, it was a well-deserved break and a chance to connect with others who understand their experiences.
A fabulous afternoon filled with smiles and laughter!

Making a Difference at Silsoe Horticultural Centre

For over 30 years, Paul has thrived at Silsoe Horticultural Centre, benefiting from structured days in a safe and supportive environment.
From mastering gardening skills (he loves wheelbarrow jobs!) to baking cakes for the café and working on community projects, Paul’s journey has been full of growth and opportunity.
He’s attended athletic events, been part of a football team, and even joined a team at Whipsnade Zoo, learning about dry hedges and animals.
Silsoe has truly made a difference, supporting Paul’s independence, skills, and connections.

Making a Difference at Allison House
Meet Marge, one of our wonderful residents at Allison House.
When Marge first joined us, she was unwell and needed extra support. Now, with improved wellbeing and full capacity, Marge is thriving and plays an active role in the home!
She even suggested running light exercise classes for other residents and is loving her new role. It’s amazing to see her confidence and enthusiasm shine.
This is just one of the many ways we’re making a difference every day.
Find out how our Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is Making a Difference
In the summer, our Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme funded fantastic activities for children and families, including a special day trip to Great Yarmouth, organised by Sandy and Biggleswade Children’s Centre.
This was their first time seeing the sea. He was so excited.
From arts and crafts to sports, outdoor adventures, and holiday clubs, we offered a wide range of activities—ensuring all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), could join in the fun.
We’re proud to be making a difference by providing opportunities that some families may not usually have the chance to enjoy.
Making a Difference at Silsoe Horticulture Centre
At Silsoe Horticulture Centre, Hayley has been honing her skills, serving with a smile in the kitchen. But her talents don’t stop there! Since joining the virtual social group at All Saints View, Hayley has mastered IT skills, led Zoom sessions, and supported events like Reading with Ruth, led by Ruth Featherstone, Co-Chair of the Older People’s Network.
As the seasons turned colder, Hayley’s love of cooking took centre stage with the launch of “Soup of the Week” at All Saints View. Her culinary skills, developed at Silsoe, have warmed hearts (and bellies!), bringing people together over hearty meals.
Hayley’s journey is a testament to growth, community, and the joy of giving back. We’re so grateful for her contributions and can’t wait to see how she continues to inspire and connect with others this winter.
Making a Difference for families with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
Did you know there are a range of clubs and activities available during the holidays for families with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)?
These clubs make a real difference, giving children and young people the chance to try new things, make friends, and helping take some pressure off families.
“I have to say the holiday club was a lifesaver.”
Find out how are reablement service is Making a Difference

When Helene joined our Reablement service, she needed four daily visits from two carers. With encouragement from our support workers and her dedication to the exercises, she achieved her goal of becoming fully independent.
Helene shared:
The encouragement I received to do my exercises helped me achieve my goal of becoming independent. I now feel confident once again. Thank you.
This is how we’re making a difference—helping people regain independence and confidence in their own homes.
