Flitwick Wood accessible countryside site
Flitwick Wood, an ancient semi-natural woodland, is a remnant of a much larger woodland. Clearance began in Saxon times to make way for cultivation. By Medieval times most of the land had been cleared, leaving the wood which survives today.
Today, the wood is a haven for wildlife with plenty to see throughout the year. In late spring the wood is carpeted by bluebells and wild garlic.
Path information
There are many paths around the site. The main circular walk is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and there are several benches along the way. There are kissing gates on each entrance which allow access for users including wheelchairs and pushchairs at some. Mobility vehicle users can also access the site with a radar key at the Tennyson Road entrance. Here there is one accessible parking space. Other parking is available on street, or at a small area off Steppingley Road.
