Dunstable Downs accessible countryside site
Dunstable Downs is the highest point in Bedfordshire and there are spectacular views over the Vale of Aylesbury. The site is very important for wildflowers, birds and butterflies, as well as archaeological features.
It is a great place for a picnic and to fly kites. Or, why not enjoy the views from inside the Chilterns Gateway Centre with a drink and cake from the café?
Visitor information
- a multi-user route runs from the Chilterns Gateway Centre along the top of the ridge into Dunstable is a surfaced path and suitable for all users including walkers, cyclists, pushchairs and wheelchair users.
- the Chilterns Gateway Centre is a modern visitor's centre, containing a café, shop, toilets, information and spectacular views over the Vale of Aylesbury
- pay and display car parking available at the Chilterns Gateway Centre (free for National Trust members)
- Bus 40 and 40A stop directly outside Chilterns Gateway Centre
- allocated spaces for disabled visitors (there are many benches around the site, so ideal for picnics)
