Reductions and reliefs

Retail, Hospitality and Leisure scheme

You could qualify for retail, hospitality and leisure relief if your business is mainly being used as a:

  • shop
  • restaurant, café, bar or pub
  • cinema or music venue
  • hospitality or leisure business - for example, a gym, a spa or a hotel

You may be able to get retail, hospitality and leisure relief on top of other types of business rates relief you’re eligible for.

2023 to 2026 Retail Hospitality and Leisure scheme

At the Autumn Statement on 17 November 2022 the Chancellor announced the introduction of a new business rates relief scheme for retail, hospitality, and leisure properties worth around £2.1 billion in 2023 to 2024. The 2023/24 Retail, Hospitality, and Leisure business rates relief scheme provided eligible, occupied, retail, hospitality, and leisure properties with a 75% relief, up to a cash cap limit of £110,000 per business. The government extended this scheme for the financial year 2024/25.

At the Autumn Budget on 30 October 2024, the Chancellor announced the extension of the business rates relief scheme for retail, hospitality, and leisure (RHL) properties, worth over £1.5 billion in 2025/26. This will provide businesses with the necessary interim support until the introduction of the permanently lower tax rates for RHL properties, including those on the high street, from 2026/27. The 2025/26 Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Business Rates Relief scheme will provide eligible occupied retail, hospitality, and leisure properties with a 40% relief, up to a cash cap limit of £110,000 per business. This relief has been applied automatically to those businesses we consider to be eligible, and this will be detailed on your 2025/26 annual bill.
