Product safety and recalls
Trading Standards enforce regulations to make sure all consumer goods sold and supplied are safe and meet the relevant safety standards. We are responsible for ensuring that products on sale in Central Bedfordshire are compliant with product safety legislation. We also work with businesses to ensure that locally manufactured or imported products are safe. This may include carrying out inspections at businesses and investigating complaints or intelligence received.
We can arrange for products to be tested against safety standards and where an unsafe product is found, this may lead to goods being seized, withdrawn from the market place, subject to a recall or even a prosecution.
If you wish to make a complaint about the safety of a product that you have recently purchased, stop using it immediately, keep it secure and retain any documents associated with the product, for example, the packaging. You can report the unsafe product to us by calling 0808 223 1133.
