Releasing CCTV images
CCTV records images of a street scene. However, it may collect personal data relating to an identifiable individual, including name, address, and vehicle registration number.
You have a right to be know if personal data is held about you and to request a copy of the image, subject to certain exemptions.
We will only give that image if we are satisfied as to your identity. If it will disclose information about other identifiable individuals, we cannot comply with the request unless the other individual has consented, or it is reasonable to do so.
We may deny access if it may prejudice the prevention and detection of crime and the apprehension and prosecution of offenders.
If your enquiry is in connection with a crime that has been reported to the police, the police may have already requested any images.
If you would like to request data held, please contact our Information Governance team.
Commercial organisations
We charge commercial organisations, including insurance companies, a non-refundable administration fee of £140 per request for information and/or CCTV reviews.
For your request to be processed you will need to make the correct payment for the number of information and/or reviews requested by making a BACS payment to Central Bedfordshire Council using the reference CCTV Review Fee.
The BACS payment details are as follows:
- Sort Code 60-01-16
- Account Number 45062811
- NatWest Bank PLC, 8 Church Street, Ampthill, Bedford, MK45 2ET
- VAT GB946 8172 86
- Reference – CCTV Review Fee
Your information/review request will not be actioned until the required payment is received.
The administration fee is non-refundable which includes requests where reviews do not identify any CCTV data relevant to the request being made.
We use cloud based evidence management software called Genetec Clearance. All reviews requested are uploaded onto Genetec Clearance, and once the correct payment has been received you will be given access to the review via Genetec Clearance.
Once we receive the correct payment the process is as follows:
- you will need to provide us with the name and email address of the person who will need access to any CCTV data/information found. Please email cctv@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk
- an email will then be sent to this person for them to set up a guest account on Genetec Clearance and information about making a formal CCTV review request
- once approved, if there is information available for you to view on the Genetec System. If there is no information available for your request you will be notified via the Genetec system
Please note that we have a 10 working day turnaround period for requests for information and/or CCTV reviews.
