We recently consulted on the proposed closure of Shelton Lower School. The consultation closed at 5pm on 23 July 2018, and a decision will be made on 7 August 2018 by our Executive.

If a decision is made to close Shelton Lower School, we will contact families of pupils attending the school with information on the options available to them.

Pupils due to start school (reception year) in September 2018

As of 25 June 2018, places are available at Cranfield Academy and Church End Lower School for pupils starting school in September. To change your application, contact our School Admissions Team.

Pupils can start at Shelton Lower and complete reception year but, if the school closes in August 2019, they will need to change school. This would be via the in-year application process.

Current pupils in reception to year 2

Pupils can continue at Shelton Lower School for the 2018 academic year. If a decision is made that the school will close in August 2019, parents will need to make an in-year application for another local lower school.

Alternatively, parents can apply for a place for September 2018 at another local lower school.

Current pupils in current year 3

Pupils can continue at Shelton Lower and complete year 4 as usual. Information for transferring to middle school in 2019 will be published on our website and sent to parents through the school in September with details of middle school open events for prospective families, how to apply and the closing dates. The deadline for applications to be received will be 15 January 2019, and parents will be notified of the outcome on 16 April 2019 (national offer day.)

Alternatively, parents can apply for a year 4 place at another local lower school, and then transfer to middle school as normal in September 2019.

Current pupils in year 4

Pupils will transfer to the middle school at which a place has been allocated for them in the normal way.

Where to make in-year applications for year 4 pupils

Applications for Cranfield Academy need to be sent directly to the school.

You need to apply online for a transfer to other Central Bedfordshire lower schools.

Applications for Bedford Borough lower schools need to be made to Bedford Borough Council's School Admissions Team.
