Warnings and our priorities – consultation on new powers to improve road safety
Consultation closed: Thursday 4 August 2022
Consultation opened: Thursday 23 June 2022
Warning notices
The legislation requires that for 6 months after enforcement starts, we can only issue warning notices to motorists for first-time offences at each pilot location.
The warning notice would set out the 6 months and advise that any further offences at the same location would result in the issue of a fine using a penalty charge notice (PCN).
Our priorities
Adopting these powers forms part of our place-based approach that supports local communities. By promoting road safety, tackling congestion and assisting active travel the moving traffic offences powers will benefit communities and residents. We will make the best use of our resources by using existing systems to process penalty charge notices and we will use the most efficient digital automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras to enforce moving traffic offences.
