Who'll be affected by our proposed changes to our Tenancy Strategy?
Consultation opened: Friday 5 November 2021
Consultation closes: Friday 28 January 2022
People who will affected by the changes proposed are:
- anyone being offered a council home for the first time
- our existing tenants, currently on a 12-month introductory tenancy
- our existing general needs tenants, who are on a flexible fixed-term tenancy regardless of how long they have held that tenancy
All registered providers with housing stock in Central Bedfordshire are required to have regard to the final Tenancy Strategy. We will ask registered providers in Central Bedfordshire to review their own tenancy policies in light of the revised strategy to ensure that, wherever possible, their policies work to complement, and do not contradict, our Tenancy Strategy.
Will anything else change?
Nothing else will change for current or future tenants.
Our statutory responsibilities as a landlord are unchanged.
The tenant’s responsibilities as stated in the tenancy agreement and the process for ending a tenancy remain the same.
The amount of rent currently charged on a property will remain at the current level and will only change when the next rent increase is applied. When that time comes service charges will increase or decrease in the normal way.
