Housing sustainability funding – our tenants

Sustainability funding for our tenants

We're working to upgrade inefficient tenanted homes, making them more economical to keep warm and better for the environment. This involves installing several different home improvement measures which will increase the EPC rating of properties rated D and below. Upgrading homes to make them more efficient and sustainable is also known as retrofitting.

What can help improve energy efficiency in your home?

You could install:

  • cavity or internal wall insulation (IWI)
  • external wall insulation (EWI)
  • roof and loft insulation
  • waste water heat recovery
  • air source heat pumps
  • ground floor heat loss reduction
  • windows / door replacements
  • photovoltaic panels (PVs)

How do we identify which homes need assessment for upgrades?

There are a number of ways a property can be identified for an assessment. These are:

  • EPC ratings we already know about
  • referrals from residents whose homes meet the eligibility criteria
  • referrals from our officers

Will you have to pay?

No. Any upgrades identified will be paid for by us and match funded by the government on a 50/50 basis. There is no financial outlay to you as one of our tenants – only a more sustainable home and a reduction in bills!

How will you know if your home will be upgraded?

If your home has been identified as being eligible for an upgrade, we will contact you. You will then be contacted by Cornerstone Ltd, to book an assessment. Any work that is recommended by Cornerstone will be carried out by LCS Energy Ltd.

If you are concerned about the efficiency of your home and you have not been contacted by us, email housingsustainability@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.
