What to do if you are worried about your child getting suspended or excluded
When there is a threat of suspension or exclusion, it is important to work with your child’s school to understand what difficulties they are experiencing and what support can be put in place.
You should always get the Designated Teacher involved at this point, as they are responsible for promoting the educational needs of all children previously looked after and will help to ensure that the school views any difficult or dangerous behaviors your child may be displaying through a trauma-informed lens.
The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) can also advise about assessments that can find out if your child has any unidentified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and suitable interventions that can support the child going forward.
