Pupil Premium Plus

Early Year Pupil Premium Plus and Funded Nursery Costs

Settings receive Pupil Premium Plus from the local authority where they are based. For Central Bedfordshire the setting will receive this automatically from the term after the child turns 3 years old. The funding equates to around £300 per year spread over the year. Settings must demonstrate that this funding is being used to improve the child’s progress towards early years goals and cannot be used simply to increase a child's hours in the setting.

School Aged (4-16)

The Virtual School Head manages Pupil Premium Plus for all children in care to the local authority. This is set at £2570 per child from the first day they are taken into care. The school the child attends receives £600 per term from the Virtual School and is expected to evidence how the money is used to support the educational achievement of the child/young person. Pupil Premium Plus must not be used for uniform, transport, food or school trips. This is monitored through the Personal Education Plan (PEP) process. The Virtual School Headteacher (VSH) manages the remaining funding through an application process. Additional funding can be applied for by schools, social workers, and carers in recognition that children’s needs vary (see relevant section on website).

Pupil Premium Plus will be paid in the last two weeks of each term depending on the quality of the submitted PEP. PEPs rated unsatisfactory will be returned and need to be resubmitted. Pupil Premium Plus will not be paid until the quality of the PEP improves.
