Kinship

How can the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF) help kinship families?

Any child or young person (including those in kinship care arrangements) who has left the care of the local authority on a Special Guardianship Order or a Care Arrangement Order can access the government’s Adoption & Special Guardianship Support Fund.

Set up to provide essential therapeutic services for children who have experienced trauma, this fund can provide up to £2,500 per year for specialist assessment and £5,000 per year for therapy for the child.

This support can be used to improve:

  • relationships with friends, family members, teachers, and school staff
  • engagement with learning
  • emotional regulation and behaviour management
  • confidence and the ability to enjoy positive family life and social relationships

To access this support, eligible kinship carers can request an assessment through the Fostering Team Duty Social Worker on 0300 300 81881 or by emailing fostering@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.
