About the Virtual School

What is the Virtual School?

Central Bedfordshire Virtual School is a small team of teachers and education professionals dedicated to raising the educational outcomes of children in care, children who have previously been in care, those with or who have had a social worker or those in kinship care. Many of these children and young people will have experienced adversity, including distress, loss and trauma.

All children in the care of Central Bedfordshire, from the age of 2 through to post-16 education and beyond, are part of Central Bedfordshire’s Virtual School. The Virtual School is not actually a school, nor is it a teaching tool or a learning environment; children and young people remain the responsibility of the school/education setting they are enrolled with. Instead, Virtual School is a multi-disciplinary team that works in close collaboration with colleagues across the authority and in social care, with schools and education settings and with parents/carers and guardians, to promote the needs and outcomes of these children and young people.
