Family meetings

Children and young people's advocacy service logo

Families can face a wide range of difficulties at times, sometimes the problems are complicated and extra help may be needed.

Where there are children within the family, it may be useful to hold a family meeting, which is a safe space where everyone can talk through concerns, then come up with a plan to make things better for everyone. A coordinator will encourage your participation, but the process is voluntary.

The whole process from referral to meeting should take around 4 to 6 weeks, but urgent family meetings can be organised if needed.

If you think a family meeting could help

We can't accept requests directly from the public, so please ask any professional who's working with your family, this could include:

  • social worker
  • teacher
  • family partner
