In Autumn 2023, we consulted on the future of Ridgmont Lower School because of the low numbers of pupils attending the school.
The results of the consultation are on our website as part of the Executive Committee papers. Most respondents wanted the school to remain open as a school.
In addition to the Council’s consultation, a separate survey and petition was undertaken by the ‘Save our School’ group. The Save our School group presented a business case for the future of the school.
The Executive Member and officers met with the Save our School group on the 6 March 2024 and listened to the community’s concerns and plans. In light of the developments in the meeting and the three to two tier proposals, alongside the revised viability assessments, officers noted additional time was required to allow for further considerations.
The Executive made a decision on 9 April 2024 to postpone the publication of the statutory notice for the closure of Ridgmont Lower School and re-examine the potential for the school and three others to become primary schools as part of the three to two tier changes.
