In Autumn 2023, we used an innovative interactive digital engagement tool to develop five Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs). The consultation outlined the networks that have been developed and enabled people to let us know anything we had missed, and which schemes will have the biggest impact or are most urgently needed to encourage cycling and walking.
The results of the consultation are on our website as part of the Executive Committee papers. Most respondents indicated that schools, town centres and railway stations were the most important to be able to cycle or wheel to and were happy with the destinations used to plan the network and the proposed routes. Some respondents gave suggestions of how these routes could be adjusted to improve user experience.
LCWIPs are ‘live’ and evolving documents that will continue to be updated and monitored as proposals are designed and implemented. They will be used to support funding applications and provide a clear policy framework for delivery of new and enhanced infrastructure and facilities. Routes directly serving schools, town centres and railway stations will be given the highest priority.
The Executive made a decision on 9 April 2024 to approve the network development proposals.
