The Big Lunch - getting people together in Central Bedfordshire
The Big Lunch is the UK's annual get together for neighbours and communities, with people coming together for a few hours of friendship, food and fun. It connects people and encourages friendlier, safer communities where people can connect - conversations, ideas, skills, resources, cultures, and stories- helping people grow local connections and feel a greater sense of belonging to where they live
In 2024, over 10 million people took part! Please mark your calendar for 7 - 8 June 2025.
About the Big Lunch
The Big Lunch is an annual community event that takes place at the start of June since the idea began in 2009 and where millions of people across the UK t get together with neighbours in a nationwide act of community and friendship.
The aim is to build social capital. Launched by the Eden Project in 2009, and supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, The Big Lunch has grown tenfold to involve over 6 million people each year, with over 500,000 individual lunches having now been held. Lunches can be big or small, often blossoming into street parties.
The idea is that by starting simple, all sorts of friendships, ideas and projects can come out of a Big Lunch. It gets people together and talking - and with a few inspired folks, it can lead to people doing more within their community and tackling the issues that matter to them most.
Getting Started
Organising a Big Lunch shouldn't be overly complicated, or require a lot of resources or money. From a cuppa with a neighbour or a back garden BBQ, to a full-blown street party, communities across Central Bedfordshire can join in, and everyone is welcome.
