Prevention Assistance grant

What is a Prevention Assistance grant?

A Prevention Assistance grant is a non-repayable sum of up to £4,000 to help fund works to adapt or improve the home of someone who is unable to return home from hospital, a care home, or other similar establishment until the works have been completed.

Unnecessary delays in returning home from time in hospital can have a negative impact on both the health service and the patient, and can also cost more than the works required.

The grant can also be used to fund works necessary to prevent admission to hospital, etc., where there is an imminent risk of this occurring that cannot be reduced to a satisfactory level by cost-effective alternative means. An example of such alternative means could include creating a micro-environment downstairs whilst awaiting Disabled Facilities Grant-funded adaptations.
