Help with shopping and errands
Age UK provides an assisted shopping service if you are unable to leave your home unaided.
They will help you to visit shops, libraries, or anywhere else you may wish to go within a five to six-mile radius of where you live. They cannot accompany you to medical appointments.
The British Red Cross can offer help with shopping and collecting prescriptions.
Many supermarkets and retailers offer online shopping services, where you can order goods on the internet and have them delivered to your door at a time of your choosing.
Help with housework and laundry
If you are finding household jobs like cleaning or laundry difficult, you may be able to get help from local home care agencies.
Age UK offers a home help service for people over 50 years of age. They can help with:
- housework
- laundry
- preparing a light meal
- shopping
- prescription collection
Help with gardening
Age UK provides a gardening service for people over 50 years of age. All of our gardeners are strictly vetted and fully insured.
Royal Voluntary Service Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire can help older people maintain their independence and stay involved in the local community.

Help with home maintenance
Age UK offers a handy person service to people over 50 years of age.
They can help with:
- painting
- fitting and supplying grab and stair rails
- fitting and supplying key safes
- light carpentry work
- general DIY
- fitting and supplying smoke alarms
