The Planning Officer Career Graded Trainee route is exceptional in terms of career progression. The Development Management team are supportive, and the training covers many fields linking together all the different specialisms required to make some big decisions on how our communities will look in the future.
I have been with CBC for just under 6 months and from day 1 have felt very welcomed and have received great training and support from the team.
Having a work mentor and regular 1:1 meetings with my Line Manager who is a Principal Planning Officer, has helped me settle in and feel that my individual knowledge is valued.
The combined knowledge and strength of the team really works well in helping to make balanced and sometimes very challenging decisions.
I am hoping to start the master’s degree in Spatial Planning this year which from speaking with other trainee’s, will be achievable alongside managing my own caseload.
Working at Central Bedfordshire is a great opportunity to collaborate with people who wish the best for our communities. I asked my daughter what the best thing about Mummy’s career is and she said about me working from home sometimes. She gets to see that it is possible to be a working Mum and have a happy work life balance and the hybrid flexible working policy allows for this.
