Large quantities of soil cannot be disposed of at home and should not be placed in your recycling, garden waste, or black household waste bin. Small quantities of soil, for example, attached to plant roots, will be accepted in your garden waste bin.
Old or unwanted potting soil can be home-composted in small quantities. Alternatively, old potting soil contains decomposed organic material from flowers, roots, stems, and leaves, so it is good to spread thinly over the top of the soil at the base of plants to encourage growth.
