Level 2 support work in schools courses - Level 2 Support Work in Schools – September 2024 (location to be confirmed)

What the course covers

This is an introductory course, aimed at those who wish to start a career in support work in schools, for example as a teaching assistant.  

You’ll start off by understanding the role and value of being a volunteer, and then move on to develop your knowledge around how schools operate; the legislation that must be followed; how children develop and learn and how to support this development in the classroom. 

Integrated into this qualification is the Level 1 Award in Employability Skills, giving you all the skills needed to support your job searching. 

Who the course is suitable for

Anyone who wishes to work or volunteer in key stage 1 or above. No experience is needed.

How the course is completed

You’ll attend 13, 3-hour sessions, fully participate in all activities, and complete your voluntary placement within a school (school to be confirmed) for a minimum of 3 hours per week. You’ll also complete e-learning and written questions as homework.

Course entry requirements

You must be at least 19 years old, be able to attend all sessions and complete the voluntary placement.

Free (worth £811)

This course is fully funded if you are unemployed and in receipt of benefits or employed and earning less than £20,319. Otherwise, a maximum contribution of £150.

What you can progress to

On completion of this course, we will support you to achieve your Level 2 Functional Skills in English & maths (if needed) and then to continue to ‘top up’ your Level 2 Award, to the full NCFE Cache Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning.
