We request Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) to analyse and implement traffic calming measures on the 20mph stretch between Luton Road and Wilbury Drive, primarily focusing on the section leading up to the bend at the top of Ridgeway Avenue where a number of incidents have taken place.
Supporting details
A considerable amount of local residents have witnessed Ridgeway Avenue used as a cut-through road when driving from Dunstable to Houghton Regis/Lewsey farm areas and vice versa. This has resulted in an increased number of motorists in the area and more often than not, excessive, dangerous speeds, noise nuisance and collisions.
On four occasions in the last three years, excessive, and dangerous speeding has contributed to a series of incidents resulting in injury to motorists, vehicle damage (including parked vehicles), written-off vehicles and structural damage to homes.
A further concern for residents in the area is that this road facilitates access to four nearby schools (The Vale Academy, Willow Nursery, Hadrian Academy and OneSchool Global) endangering pedestrians including young children.
A number of residents have come together to ask CBC for further analysis at busy times and for speed and traffic calming measures to be implemented as a result. - Start date
