About the role

Enjoy making life happen for a living as a Healthcare Assistant. There’s no better feeling than supporting people to live the life they want. And it’s what you’ll do every day here at Leonard Cheshire. We offer great benefits that include a pension, substantial annual leave, Blue Light card, cash health plan, plus funded qualifications and training. But our Healthcare Assistants stay for the even bigger rewards of supporting individuals who’ll rely on you to achieve what most people can take for granted.

There’s no typical day. Because there’s no typical resident. People might have a severe learning or physical disability, brain injury, or other obstacle that makes independence harder. But what they all share is a desire to make their own choices, as well as friends and memories that last a lifetime. After all, isn’t that what most of us want? As a Healthcare Assistant for a leading charity, you’ll help make that happen.

As some residents are non-verbal and immobile, you might support nurses with medical interventions. There’ll be some personal care and medical appointments too. But where possible, the rest of the day is down to them. You’ll support their decisions on what they eat, wear and do that day. It could be arts and crafts, exercise, community groups or even days out. From family visits to fun at the beach, you’ll enable the moments that matter.

There’s no upper age limit. And no experience needed – although if you’ve done something similar before, all the better. But you will need a listening ear, friendly personality, and passion for people. We want you to feel as comfortable as our residents. So, if it’s needed, you’ll have a full induction, a mentor to shadow and a great team on hand. We’ll also keep your training topped up so you always feel confident, fund qualifications and support you to develop into more senior roles too, if that’s what you want.

This is a career to be proud of, in an organisation that cares about its people as much as its residents. Explore more about everything we offer and apply now.

You will need to have access to a vehicle due to lack of public transport serving the area.

Leonard Cheshire welcomes applications from all sections of the community. We actively encourage applications from people with a disability, supporting where possible, your requirements for reasonable adjustments.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults at risk. A satisfactory disclosure check (PVG membership in Scotland) is required for this post. References will be obtained for all roles.

Shortlisting for this role may take place as applications are received. We therefore reserve the right to close this vacancy once suitable candidates have been appointed.
