You now require a booking to visit one of our four Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)
All residents are now required to book a 20-minute time slot before they visit. Bookings are free of charge and can be made up to two weeks in advance of your planned visit.
The booking system is in place to:
- ensure the sites are for Central Bedfordshire residents only
- reduce queues and waiting times
- provide staff assistance on-site
- boost recycling efforts, with staff available to help customers reuse and recycle more
- control commercial waste disposal

On Wednesday, 26 March 2025, the way residents use our four recycling centres will change. Before a visit, all residents who wish to dispose of their household waste will be required to book a free of charge timeslot. Residents will be able to reserve a 20-minute slot at their preferred recycling centres location for their visit. Slots are available between 9am to 5pm, 7 days a week (the last booking slot is at 4:40pm). Bookings can be made up to two weeks in advance of your planned visit, and on the same day (subject to availability). Please bring your booking confirmation with you. We will need you to provide your: There are some restrictions on waste types and quantities and vehicle types. Find out what waste we will accept and what waste we will not accept at recycling centres. Here are some of the most common reasons why you might not be able to log into your account: If you can’t remember your login email address or password, select ‘Problems signing in?’ and enter the email address you think you used to set up your account. If it’s a registered email, you will receive an email with a link to reset your password. If you don’t receive any emails, you may need to re-register here. First, check your SPAM or Junk folder. If you still aren’t receiving emails, it could be because the system cannot find an account linked to the email address you provided. Double-check that the email address you entered is correct and matches the one you registered with, then resubmit your forgotten password request. Residents will be required to book before they visit any of our four recycling centres. No, all bookings to dispose of household waste at a recycling centre are free of charge. There are fees for certain types of non-household waste such as tyres and trade waste. Trade waste is a chargeable service and is only accepted at Thorn Turn. Subject to availability you can book another time slot. Alternatively, if you know you can no longer visit the recycling centre during your booked time you can easily amend/cancel your booking via the link on your booking confirmation email. Residents can book up to two weeks in advance of their planned visit. To book your visit, please use our online booking form. Yes, you can, subject to the time slots being available. To check availability and book your slot, please visit our online booking form. All residents are required to book before they visit. Staff on site reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who does not have a valid booking. Yes, you can arrive at any point during your 20-minute booking. Yes, you can cancel or change your booking date, time or the recycling centre you wish to visit, using the link on your booking confirmation email. If you cancel a booking with restricted items/vehicles, please allow 24 hours before making a new booking. If you wish to add restricted items or change the vehicle, please cancel your existing booking and allow 24 hours before making a new booking. There is no limit to the number of bookings to deposit unrestricted waste using an unrestricted vehicle. If you want to bring restricted items, you will be limited to the number of bookings you can make. If you wish to make multiple bookings, you will need to complete a new booking. We are advising residents via a press release, social media, and by email to those subscribed to receive our updates. Information cards will also be handed out to visitors during the next few weeks. On-site staff will check your email booking confirmation on arrival. If you do not have access to an electronic device or have made your booking by telephone you will need to bring your booking reference number. Staff on site reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who does not have a valid booking. We will be implementing an automated barrier system at each site later this year.
No, a booking is not required to visit the trade waste site at Thorn Turn. No, if you solely wish to donate, browse or buy an item then you do not require a booking to visit the reuse shop. No, there will not be any changes to opening hours. Bookings will be available from 9 am until 5pm (the last booking slot will be 4:40pm). No, access to the recycling centres is for Central Bedfordshire residents only. All our Household Waste Recycling Centres are open 7 days a week, from 9am to 5pm, including the following bank holidays:
- 18 April - Good Friday
- 21 April - Easter Monday
- 5 May - Early May bank holiday
- 26 May - Spring bank holiday
- 25 August - Summer bank holiday
