Leighton Buzzard tidy tip redevelopment
Tidy tip to re-open on 30 January
Leighton Buzzard Household Waste Recycling Centre (tidy tip) is currently closed for redevelopment, but is due to reopen on Monday, 30 January at 9am.
What are the benefits?
The redeveloped Leighton Buzzard tidy tip will be a modern, two-level facility, delivering:
- a new layout, making it easier, quicker and more convenient to use, increasing safety and minimising congestion
- the removal of all stairs, providing easier and safer access to the containers
- the opportunity to recycle a greater range of materials, including hard plastics
- enhanced signage and improved lighting, fencing and security (CCTV) making the site better for you
Why are we redeveloping our sites?
The redevelopment of Leighton Buzzard tidy tip is part of a wider investment to modernise and improve Household Waste Recycling Centres across Central Bedfordshire. We want to ensure they’re easy to use and equipped to meet future needs as demands increase due to a growing population.

Keeping you informed
We will widely publicise the redevelopment of Leighton Buzzard Household Waste Recycling Centre through the local press, email alerts, this website, the Leighton Buzzard Town Council website (link opens in new window) and via social media on our Facebook page (link opens in new window), Leighton Buzzard Town Council's Facebook page (link opens in new window) and our Twitter feed (link opens in new window).
We will use the local media to announce progress and all available updates.
Other recycling centres
Please use one of our other recycling centres in Central Bedfordshire (link opens in new window) whilst Leighton Buzzard is temporarily closed, as you may be turned away if you visit a site outside of the Central Bedfordshire area.
What should I do with my waste?
Please try to put off a major clear out until the site reopens or store items until then.
The recycling centres in Central Bedfordshire are not meant for the disposal of waste from home building projects or large volumes of waste. If you are working on a project of this nature, you will need to hire a skip. In order to place a builder's skip on the highway, you need to apply for a skip permit from Central Bedfordshire highways. This will not apply if the skip is on your own land.
If items can be reused and are of good quality, please donate them to a local charity or an organisation such as Preen in Sun Street (link opens in new window), Biggleswade or list it on a reuse website.
Alternatively, you can use one of the other tidy tips in Central Bedfordshire in Central Bedfordshire:
- Abbey Lane, Ampthill
- Bells Brook, Biggleswade
- French’s Avenue, Dunstable
They are all open 7 days a week from 9am to 5pm. Please arrive 10 minutes before closing time to allow enough time to unload. We will not accept waste after 5pm.
If you have a valid monthly permit to dispose of waste (other than garden), this will still be valid at our Ampthill, Biggleswade and Dunstable tidy tips.
A paid-for bulky waste collection service is available for the removal of up to 12 items.
