Clinical waste

Clinical waste

We can arrange to collect clinical waste from households. This is a separate collection and will need to be arranged on an individual basis dependant on the needs of the resident. This service is free of charge.

To book a collection, please call 0300 300 8302 or email

What is clinical waste?

Clinical waste is any waste which consists wholly or partly of:

  • human tissue
  • blood
  • other body fluid
  • drugs
  • other pharmaceutical products
  • swabs or dressings
  • syringes, needles or other sharp instruments

If you or someone in your household needs a clinical waste collection that is not dealt with by your healthcare visitor / carer, please contact us and we will make arrangements for a member of the waste team to provide advice.

Please note: We do not accept purple, lidded, sharps boxes. These should be passed back to the original provider (hospital, GP surgery, carer, etc.) once full, or no longer required.

If we have snow or icy conditions during the winter, keep checking our website for details of bin collections in case the weather disrupts normal arrangements.
