Electric cars - benefits, charging points and parking charges

Electric cars

Benefits of having an electric car

If you currently drive a petrol or diesel vehicle, you could save money and cut pollutants by switching to an electric car. Currently there is no vehicle tax to pay on an electric vehicle and they have no tailpipe emissions of CO2 or the air pollutants which have a detrimental effect on human health.

Electric car charging points

There are 10 charging locations in Central Bedfordshire. You can search for the nearest to your location by using the network map (link opens in new window).

These bays can only be used to charge your electric car and not for general parking for any cars. If you park in a bay without charging your car, you can be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

CBC have also recently installed a publicly accessible rapid charge unit at Priory View in Dunstable (LU5 4HU) which can charge an electric car to 80% in around half an hour. Charges and time restrictions apply and are shown on the Polar website (link opens in new window).

Charges for using electric charge point?

Charges to use electric charging points vary by location and Local Authority area. All of the publically available posts in Central Bedfordshire are currently free to use, with the exception of the above unit at Priory View.

Please be aware if you are using charging facilities in a pay and display car park you will need to display a valid ticket for your parking duration.
