Access and Inclusion for schools

For schools: What to do about reduced educational provision and alternative provision

We do not promote the use of part-timetables unless they are essential, in the best interests of the child and agreed by the parents or carers. The guidance on the use of these has been updated and is available on the website. This guidance is to ensure that the application of a reduced-educational provision is time-limited and that re-integration to full-time education occurs swiftly and is appropriate to the pupil’s personal needs, abilities and circumstances. The guidance relates to pupils of statutory school age who are not in their on roll setting for 100% of the time, even if they are accessing full time education across multiple settings/APs.

Please read through the guidance prior to submitting a referral and ensure you have all of the necessary paperwork required. We understand that it is difficult for parent(s)/carer(s) to come into school to sign paperwork due to the current restrictions, therefore we suggest that consent from parent(s)/carer(s) is given in writing by email.

Provision Monitoring Officer

To ensure that, where possible, all children attending our schools receive the full-time education that they are legally entitled to, the Local Authority has a Provision Monitoring Officer. Their role is to monitor the level of educational provision and check on subsequent review periods of all children who have either alternative or reduced educational provision. The officer works closely with schools throughout the referral process to help support them in meeting the needs of their pupils.

If you would like to discuss a current referral, or would like any advice prior to submitting a referral their contact email is provision.monitoring@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.

All schools should submit a referral for any pupil currently not in full time education or who has an alternative provision. Once the referral has been received, the Provision Monitoring Officer will record the details of the provision and make regular contact with schools at the relevant review periods.
