New £1 charge for bus pass holders in Bedford Borough

Pre-9:30am charge in Bedford Borough

From 1 February 2017, Bedford Borough Council introduced a £1 charge for bus pass holders (link opens in new window) who use their pass before 9:30am on weekdays.

The English National Concessionary Travel Scheme rules dictate that travel must be free for pass holders after 9:30am on weekdays and all day at weekends.

We won't be charging bus pass customers

Our customers told us, in our Passenger Transport Strategy consultation last year, that they don't want to be charged. Therefore, we won't be introducing a similar charge in Central Bedfordshire.

Travel between Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough

Whilst bus pass travel before 9:30am on weekdays in Central Bedfordshire will remain free, please be aware that if you need to make onward journeys within Bedford Borough before this time, you'll be charged.

For example: if you're travelling from Flitwick to Bedford and then connect to another service at Bedford Bus Station before 9:30am, you'll be charged when you make that new connection.

Contact Bedford Borough Council (link opens in new window) for any enquiries about this.
