Council plans Community Day for Houghton Regis

7 August 2017

Central Bedfordshire Council is holding a family-orientated Community Day, called Your Town – Your Future, in Houghton Regis on 30 August. The event gives residents an opportunity to contribute their own ideas, and hear more about the planned improvements coming to the town. This is the start of a series of events and activities where the council will be liaising with the Houghton Regis Community to shape your future town.

From Houghton Regis Central – a forthcoming independent living scheme for older people – to other proposals including education, leisure and housing, Central Bedfordshire Council is working on a number of major projects to benefit the community.

First event on Wednesday 30 August

This first event will take place on Wednesday 30 August (from 11am-6pm) at Houghton Regis Baptist Church Hall on Hammersmith Gardens (off Parkside Drive). We’re currently planning follow up events and will build on people’s ideas from this one. The next events are likely to take place in October and March.

Residents are invited to bring their whole family and drop in any time between 11am and 6pm to meet the people who are directly involved in the plans, to ask questions and to share their thoughts and ideas for Houghton Regis. There will be activities to support and to encourage people, especially our youngest residents, to contribute their ideas for the future of Houghton Regis.

Cllr Nigel Young, Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “There are a wide range of exciting developments on the horizon for Houghton Regis. We want to raise awareness of these amongst the local community, so that they can better understand the projects coming to their town.

“At the event, we will welcome residents who wish to discuss specific development or regeneration initiatives. We also recognise that residents will want to talk about their own ideas and provide their thoughts on their neighbourhood, and so we are running some creative workshops to encourage participation by all age groups. Everyone is welcome to join us to take part in our ongoing discussions, as we aim to make Houghton Regis a great place to live and work.”
