Most Central Bedfordshire children offered first-preference school

Tuesday, 16 April 2019

Today’s the day (Tuesday, 16 April) that children across Central Bedfordshire are discovering where they will be starting school or transferring to middle school in September.

The majority of young people will be pleased as 95 per cent of the 3,461 pupils who applied for a place at a lower or primary school in Central Bedfordshire for the 2019/20 academic year have been granted their first preference.

Meanwhile, 93 per cent of the 2,319 Central Bedfordshire pupils transferring to middle school were offered their first preference.

Sue Harrison, Central Bedfordshire Council Director of Children’s Services, said: “We’re delighted that such a high percentage of children in Central Bedfordshire have once again received their first-preference school.

“Our school admissions team works incredibly hard to make sure that as many on-time applicants as possible receive their first preference. We know there will be a small percentage of children that didn’t get the offer they’d hoped for, in which case there is a wealth of information available on our website that can help with next steps.”

More than 90 per cent of applications for school starters and 95 per cent of those transferring to middle school were made online and these have received an email with their offer this morning, with offer letters for other applicants being sent out by first-class post today.

Anyone who wishes to change the place their child has been offered needs to submit a change of preference form by Tuesday, 30 April. These will then be considered – along with any late applications – on Wednesday, 22 May for middle school and Monday, 3 June for starting school.
