We deliver Xplorer challenges on a selection of days during all school holidays at Chambers Way Park (Biggleswade), Ampthill Park, Rushmere Park (Leighton Buzzard) and Grove Corner Park (Dunstable). We are looking to develop this scheme in different areas so please keep your eye out for future locations.

Leisure services managed play areas

Our leisure services currently own and maintains the following 21 equipped children’s play areas. These are open spaces, free to use. Play areas benefit a child as they provide a form of exercise that promotes well-being and wholesome physical development.

As a natural outlet for children, active play:

  • allows them to explore their environment
  • develops muscle strength and coordination
  • helps self-confidence
  • increases flexibility, fine and gross motor skills
  • is related to the development of a wide variety of physical skills, including those involved in sports

Other play areas not on the list are managed by town / parish councils or housing developers.

Play equipment inspection and repair

How to report an issue with a play area

Please contact our customer service team on 0300 300 8000 and ask for the play sites officer, if you spot something that needs addressing.

How we maintain play areas

To make sure play areas are safe to use, we regularly inspect them every week. Play sites officers are trained and certificated with the Register of Play Inspectors International (RPII) (link opens in new window). Where an inspection does highlight equipment in need of repair, this will be made safe or repaired within two weeks and any dangerous items will be removed immediately or cordoned off to prevent use.
