Countryside sites

We have over 1000 hectares of countryside which we manage for public access and wildlife. Our sites are managed in-house by our Countryside Sites Team, or in partnership with the National Trust (link opens in new window), Greensand Trust (link opens in new window) and Wildlife Trust (link opens in new window).

We have woodlands, meadows, wetlands, chalk grasslands and moors. Walking, wildlife or exploring, there really is something for everyone.

Greensand Country

Greensand Country covers 40 miles of scenic landscape, which is defined by the Greensand Ridge and reaches from Cambridgeshire in the East, across Central Bedfordshire and into Buckinghamshire in the West.

It contains all of Bedfordshire’s remaining heathland, more than half of its woodland and more historic parkland than anywhere else in the country.

We're a proud supporter of the Greensands Country and encourage everyone to get out and explore our great countryside.

You can find out more about Greensands Country (link opens in new window) on its website as well as events and activities.
