War Memorials, parks and gardens

Our War Memorials Officer acts as the focal point for war memorial matters, takes a civic lead on the issue and liaises with the War Memorials Trust for support and advice.

We have started to build up a comprehensive record of war memorials in Bedfordshire (PDF 678.8KB) . If you would like to add anything, please contact our War Memorials Officer at partnerships.communityengagementteam@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.

Registered parks and gardens

A registered park and garden is one that is included in the English Heritage ‘Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest’. Parks and gardens are registered to identify those sites that are of special historic interest.

The decision as to whether a park or garden should be included on the national register is by assessment by English Heritage. Further details are available on Historic England website (link opens in new window).

Jointly funded by English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation, The War Memorials Trust administers grants for War Memorials scheme.

The scheme provides funding for freestanding war memorials in England.

Those interested in applying for the scheme should complete a grants pre-application form which will be considered by the Conservation Team.

Alternatively, if you would like an initial informal discussion about any proposals, please contact Conservation Officers on 0207 233 7356 or email conservation@warmemorials.org.
