Public Sector Apprenticeship Target

Under the Public Sector Apprenticeship Targets Regulations 2017, public sector employers with 250 or more employees in England are set a target to employ an average of at least 2.3% of their headcount as apprentice starts over the period of 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2021. The target is aggregated, so if it is not achieved in a given year, the shortfall can be balanced by surpassing the 2.3% in subsequent years.

The target is inclusive of community and voluntary controlled schools and other services where the local authority is the employer. Public Sector bodies have an obligation to report the combined figures to the government at the end of September each year.
