Overview of pharmaceutical needs consultation
Pharmacies (chemists) provide over-the-counter medicines as well as those that your GP prescribes. They can also offer health advice and information. Your opinions are valuable in helping us plan for the future to ensure high-quality and easily accessible services are provided.
A Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) looks at what pharmaceutical services are currently in an area, whether this meets local needs and if there are any gaps.
Every local authority is required to publish and keep an updated PNA document. That is why we're working with Bedford Borough Council and Milton Keynes Council to carry out this joint public consultation.
The consultation will be formed of two parts:
- to review current pharmacy provision – assess whether current services are meeting the needs of the community, and responses will help to identify any possible gaps that could be addressed
- to review the draft PNAs – each authority has drafted a proposed PNA document and feedback is being sought on each of them to help identify any issues that affect the commissioning of pharmaceutical services and the ability to meet local health needs and priorities
You can take part in one or both sections of the consultation. All feedback will be considered by the health and well-being boards from the three local authorities and recommendations will be reflected in the final revised PNA reports implemented by each area.
