Gypsy and Traveller unauthorised encampments

Gypsy and Traveller sites in Central Bedfordshire

Central Bedfordshire has 47 permanent Gypsy and Traveller sites, with a total of 370 pitches(Gypsy and Traveller sites and Travelling showpeople sites)

Central Bedfordshire Council own and manage three sites: Chiltern View in Eaton Bray, Timberlands in Pepperstock, and Common Road in Potton. A fourth council owned site at Dunton Lane will be open in 2017/2018. These sites are managed by our Gypsy and Traveller Site Managers, who are responsible for the day to day management of these sites. This includes the allocation of plots, health and safety, as well as advice and guidance. The Site Manger is also fundamental to building successful relationships with key partner agencies, tenant involvement, and leading the development of services, policies and procedures.

Additionally, the Gypsy and Traveller Site Manager is also responsible for dealing with unauthorised encampments on Central Bedfordshire Council Housing land.

If you have any queries regarding the Council owned sites, please contact 0300 300 5378.

Privately owned sites

As well as the three Council-owned sites, there are 44 privately owned sites (eight of which are Travelling Showpeople sites). These sites are often family-run and a part of the community in which they are situated.

Central Bedfordshire Council has an appointed Gypsy and Traveller Engagement Officer who works as part of the Community Safety Team to provide a point of contact for the local Gypsy and Traveller community and to continuously review the way the Council works with its Gypsy and Traveller residents. This is done through partnership working, site visit engagement, and a collaborative approach between teams within the Council.

If you have any queries regarding the privately owned sites , please contact 0300 300 5197.
