Prospectus for development in Dunstable town centre

Dunstable Masterplan 2011

Published in March 2011, the Dunstable Masterplan is a flexible strategy which was developed over three years seeking to unlock the town's transport challenges, attract employment and prosperity and breathe new life into Dunstable, restoring its character as a traditional market town.

Developed with input from key landowners, local residents and businesses, it set out a vision for Dunstable's town centre and development objectives, outlining key principles to promote renewal, redevelopment and improvement of the town centre.

Proposals included the redevelopment of the town centre with a mix of retail, leisure, residential and community facilities as well as building a new medical centre. Improving connections to different parts of the town. Access to the town centre by public transport was also key, alongside improving walking and cycling routes. Providing additional homes for the increasing population was also important.

The document is approaching 10 years old whilst much has changed over the years the vision for Dunstable still stands

Dunstable will be enlivened with affordable living opportunities, creating a popular destination for residents and visitors, which is different from our other larger urban centres and offers a more coherent sense of place.

Many of the proposals have come to fruition
